On July 11, Maxim the Baryonyx, a large spinosaurid dinosaur, joined the grand dinosaur family of the PNSO Prehistoric Animal Models series. Let’s meet it with some details.
Who is Maxim the Baryonyx?
Maxim the Baryonyx was a large theropod dinosaur from the Early Cretaceous. Researchers speculate that it lived near water and fed on fish. Its remarkable comprehensive strengths made it an outstanding predator.

The Size of Maxim the Baryonyx
Baryonyx and Spinosaurus both belong to the family Spinosauridae. According to scientific research on the fossils, the body length of Maxim the Baryonyx was set to 10-12 meters to scale down when we did reconstruction.
The Head of Maxim the Baryonyx
Maxim the Baryonyx had a head very similar to that of a crocodile, with a narrow and long shape. Its snout was low and slender. It possessed a large number of teeth. A distinctive notch at the lower front end of the upper jaw could fit into the upward protrusion in the lower jaw, which helped it hold on its prey and prevent slippery fish from escaping its mouth.
The Body of Maxim the Baryonyx
Maxim the Baryonyx was large, with a slightly humped back and a long, flexible neck. Its forelimbs had sharp claws, and its hind limbs were relatively strong but inadequate to support it in running fast.
The Forelimbs of Maxim the Baryonyx
Maxim the Baryonyx had three fingers on each forelimb, with the thumb being relatively short and the index finger longer. The huge, sharp first claws on the forelimbs were its efficient hunting tool.
