In November 2023, the Chinese PNSO Dinosaur Encyclopedia for Young Paleoartists 1 and PNSO Dinosaur Encyclopedia for Young Paleoartists 2, new scientific and artistic books by ZHAO Chuang and YANG Yang were officially published. This is a set of unique aesthetic encyclopedia books for children aged 6 to 12. This series allows children to learn the corresponding fun science facts while learning how to draw a dinosaur. This set of books, including 26 species of dinosaurs from 6 taxa (tyrannosaurs, ceratopsians, stegosaurs, ankylosaurs, hadrosaurs, and carcharodontosaurids), will lead children to recognize, understand, and draw various dinosaurs with bizarre features through the combination of texts and tutorial videos.

ZHAO Chuang, the scientific artist, integrates his rich painting experience into books. While teaching painting techniques, he can also help children understand the details of dinosaurs and go deep into the functions and characteristics of this part, so that the children will understand the anatomy behind the appearance and finally create and represent their paintings better. YANG Yang, the science writer for children, uses concise but definite words to elaborate on the painting method of each dinosaur, helping children understand the science facts and painting techniques more clearly.

How to draw the thick and robust head of Tyrannosaurus rex? What are the characteristics of the head frill of Triceratops? How were the armor plates of Ankylosaurus arranged? What did the crest of Tsintaosaurus look like? How do we show the sharp bony plates of Stegosaurus? How to draw a carcharodontosaurid dinosaur? Pick up your pen now, turn the pages of the PNSO Dinosaur Encyclopedia for Young Paleoartists series, and learn to draw dinosaurs with ZHAO Chuang and YANG Yang!

All works in this series come from the research results of “Darwin: An Art Project of Life Science” of “PNSO’s Scientific Art Projects Plan: Stories on Earth.” Mr. ZHAO Chuang, a scientific artist, strictly follows available scientific evidence throughout his creation by building his artistic framework based on fossils and scientific data. He restored skeletons, models, and the ecological environment from fossils, to make these both scientifically rigorous and artistically creative. YANG Yang, a science writer for children, adopts vivid and accessible words to help children learn how to draw dinosaurs step by step.
