Creative Activities in Children’s Space
PNSO Dinosaur Museum Creative Activities in Children’s Space Solution: Biber and Rook the Stegosaurus and Stegosauria Scientific Art Exhibition is part of the “PNSO New Aesthetic Education Project: Join ZHAO Chuang and YANG Yang to Creating Amazing Stories on Earth” which is facing to the children aging 6 to 12. In this solution, we provide two scientific art activities.
Activity I: PNSO Dinosaur Museum Scientific Art Exhibition of Biber and Rook the Stegosaurus and Stegosauria: Explore a Scientific Art Exhibition.
Activity II: PNSO Dinosaur Museum Scientific Art Exhibition of Biber and Rook the Stegosaurus and Stegosauria: Join Us in Creating a Scientific Art Exhibition.
Children participating in the activity will learn about designing an exhibition, from planning and preparation to presentation and visiting. They will also participate in the planning, design, and presentation of an exhibition.
We take exhibition, a specialized scientific art activity, as a means to integrate science and art. Children will learn about classification in biology, understand the laws of evolution, and get ideas about the differences between individuals and why the differences exist. They will be able to compare things according to logical rules, have a preliminary sense of creating characters, and eventually use artistic means in an exhibition to share they thoughts.
By taking part in the activities of PNSO Dinosaur Museum Scientific Art Exhibition of the Biber and Rook the Stegosaurus and Stegosauria, children aged 6-12 will develop readiness in science, writing, logic, practical skills, and expression to enhance their capacities in cognition, thinking, and hands-on.
Explore the exhibition and take a first look how ZHAO Chuang and YANG Yang created Biber and Rook the Stegosaurus.
Preface
In the vast world of dinosaurs, Stegosauria were one of the most distinctive groups. They did not have a large body size or an extremely fast speed to defend against predators, unlike the other herbivorous dinosaurs. Instead, they grew “armor” that scared away hunters. The “armor” was their secret for self-protection. Stegosaurus was outstanding in this peculiar group, showing greater advantages in both size and armor. In the exhibition “Biber and Rook the Stegosaurus and Stegosauria,” we use scientific art to give details about Biber and its child Rook, along with their relatives in the same group, so that visitors can closely look at these dominating Stegosauria.
Biber the Stegosaurus
Well, we are finally meeting the Stegosaurus. Let’s say hello to this Stegosaurus named Biber! Stegosaurus was the largest Stegosauria. Look, Biber had a body length of about 7.5 meters and a hip height of about 2.7 meters. If you count the dermal plates, the height goes up to 3.5 meters, making it look quite powerful. Biber had huge dermal plates, with the largest ones above the hips. These dermal plates formed by highly modified osteoderms were more than a visual deterrent. They could become powerful weapons when Biber faced real danger.
Tail of Biber the Stegosaurus
At the end of the Biber’s tail, there were four long and sharp tail spikes, which were their active defensive “weapons”. These four tail spikes were 0.8 to 1 meter long, symmetrically distributed at the end of the tail, and almost parallel to the ground. When Biber encountered a predator and could not escape quickly, it would use its tail spike to protect itself. It always swung its tail using the hindlimb as a support axis, and the tail spike would swing along. Once it found an opportunity, it would powerfully stab the predator with its tail spike.
